Sweepstake Tiebreakers

Most tournaments use total sweepstakes points and allow ties to remain tied.

If you want to break ties, you can now enable Sweepstakes Tiebreakers in Tournament Settings.

Tiebreakers are available separately for:

  • sweepstakes-team
  • sweepstakes-ind

This means you can use different tiebreak rules for Team and Individual sweepstakes if needed.

Where To Find Tiebreaker Settings

Go to:

  1. Admin->Settings->Tournament
  2. Open either sweepstakes-team or sweepstakes-ind

You’ll see these options:

  • Use Sweepstakes Tiebreakers
  • Primary Tiebreak Mode (medal-first or place-first)
  • Use Top X Seeds
  • Top X Seed Count
  • Use Top N Seeds
  • Top N Seed Mode (dynamic or fixed)
  • Top N Seed Count

How Tiebreakers Are Applied

Tiebreakers only run when total sweepstakes points are tied.

First, the system uses your Primary Tiebreak Mode:

  • medal-first: compares Gold, Silver, Bronze, then Honor
  • place-first: compares 1st, 2nd, 3rd, then lower places

Then seed rules apply (if enabled):

  1. Top X Seeds (sum of best X prelim seeds)
  2. Top N Seeds (after Top X)

If both are enabled, Top X runs first, then Top N.

Top N Modes

  • fixed: compares sum of best 1..N seeds
  • dynamic: compares next seed depth one-by-one (4th, 5th, 6th, etc.) until tie breaks

If one school/program does not have enough entries for a seed-depth comparison, the one with more entries wins that step.

Viewing Tiebreak Results

After processing sweepstakes, the results page now shows:

  • A * next to schools tied on total points
  • Tiebreaker Results (*) table at the bottom of the page
  • Gold/Silver/Bronze/Honor counts
  • Top X / Top N seed sums
  • Seed Count

Seed Count means how many prelim seed entries are available for that school/program in that sweepstakes run.
