Linking Your NSDA Account for Auto Pointing

NSDA (National Speech & Debate Association) tracks points your students earn toward degrees and honors. Normally, someone has to manually enter your team's tournament results into NSDA's system after every tournament. Linking your school to NSDA here lets FTN post those points automatically, straight from tournament results — no manual data entry required.

This is a one-time setup per school. Here's how it works.

1) Go to School -> NSDA Auto Pointing

From your account, select the school you want to connect, then choose NSDA Auto Pointing from the School menu on the left. Here is a direct link (must be logged in)

then click on NSDA Autopointing:

2) Click Connect to NSDA Auto Pointing

If your school isn't linked yet, you'll see a card explaining what this does. Click Connect to NSDA Auto Pointing to open the sign-in window.

Enter the same email and password you already use to log in at speechanddebate.org. FTN sends this directly to NSDA to verify you're an Advisor or Coach, then discards it immediately — your password is never stored on FTN's servers.

4) Confirm your school

Once your login is verified, FTN asks NSDA which school(s) you're listed as an Advisor or Coach at. If one of those matches the school you're viewing, click This is [Your School Name] to confirm it.

If you don't see your school in the list, double-check your Advisor/Coach role in NSDA's own system — FTN can only see what NSDA reports for your login.

Once confirmed, you'll see a green "Linked to NSDA" card showing which NSDA school your FTN school is mapped to. That's the connection FTN needs to post tournament points automatically — no further action is needed on your part.

The next step would be to link your FTN roster to your NSDA roster. That's the vital link that allows us to automatically send NSDA points.

Frequently asked questions

I coach at more than one school — do I need to do this more than once?

Yes. Visit each school's NSDA Auto Pointing page separately (using the school switcher) and confirm the right NSDA school for each one. You only need to sign in with your NSDA login once — after that, any of your NSDA schools that haven't been confirmed yet will show up ready to confirm on each school's page.

Can another coach at my school see or manage this?

Yes. Once a school is linked, any coach with access to that school can see the connection and unlink it if needed — it's a property of the school, not just the coach who set it up.

What if I entered the wrong school, or need to start over?

Click Unlink This School on the NSDA Auto Pointing page, then confirm again from your list of discovered NSDA schools.

Is my NSDA password safe?

Yes. It's sent directly to NSDA over a secure connection to verify your login, and is never stored anywhere in FTN. Only a verification token — not your password — is kept, so you don't have to sign in every time.
