Allowing Hybrid Teams at Your Tournament

A hybrid team includes competitors from more than one school. For example, a two-person debate team might include one competitor from Mt. SAC and one competitor from Pasadena City College.

Hybrid registration is turned off by default. Tournament directors must enable it for each tournament that permits hybrid entries.

Enable hybrid registration

From the tournament administration menu, open Tournament Settings → Registration.

Check Allow Hybrid Teams. Coaches will then be able to search for an active partner from another school when registering a multi-competitor event.

The school that creates the entry remains the owning school. That school is responsible for editing the entry, dropping it, paying its fees, and any entry limits or wait-list placement.

The other settings include:

1) Allow Hybrid Associated School Matchups controls whether a hybrid entry may be paired or sectioned against entries from one of the schools it represents.

Leave this setting off when you want every represented school included in normal same-school avoidance. Debate, Readers Theater, World Schools, and British Parliamentary use their existing same-school restriction or penalty. Standard Individual Events continue to use the normal soft same-school penalty, so an overlap may still occur when it cannot be avoided.

Turn this setting on when hybrid entries may compete against entries from their associated schools. This setting only changes competitor-to-competitor pairing and sectioning. Judge conflicts always include every school represented by the hybrid entry.

2) Hybrid Team Sweepstakes Credit to decide how team sweepstakes credit is awarded:

Owner — all team credit goes to the school that created the entry.

Split — team credit is divided equally among every school represented by the entry.

None — the hybrid entry earns no team sweepstakes credit.

This setting does not change individual sweepstakes credit.

Important note on fees

The owning school can edit, drop, and pay for the entry. Other represented schools can see the hybrid entry as read-only. The entry displays a Hybrid label and lists all represented schools in unmasked registration views.

When a hybrid entry is created, changed, or dropped, the non-owning schools receive an email. The message goes to the school's designated tournament contacts, or to its active coaches when no tournament contact is configured.
